Dear Students, Parents and Friends of Cal Maritime,
Below you will witness Cal Maritime’s Global Awareness mission in action: our shoreside students are venturing beyond the borders and norms of their usual lives. Seeing and making meaning of the world is one of the original reasons sailors went to sea–today’s maritime undergraduates show that boarding a ship is just one way to do it. This year, our students are traveling to Vietnam, and exploring the country both above and below the ocean’s surface. Who knows, maybe some of our students will return to Hai Phong for an internship, or to Saigon for a graduate degree, or fall in love in Hoi An? Let’s hope they return home with new dreams and a slightly changed perspective on what it means to be from the USA.
